Internal Project Day of the Smart Solution Labs: Conclusion of the Smart Labs and lively exchange between German and Dutch companies and students

The Internal Project Day started with the final presentations of the ongoing Smart Labs. The students presented their results, which they had worked on intensively during the last 8 weeks, to the company representatives.

For Caisley International GmbH, a team of students identified possible uses for their ear tags after the end of the current usage phase. After intensive research, the students had to discard some of their initial ideas because they could not be implemented for legal, technical or economic reasons. However, they were not discouraged by this and brought a fresh set of eyes to Caisley.

Another team of students dealt with a much more technical task for Zeton B.V.: the students developed creative solutions to optimise the cooling of liquids. In addition to the design of the cooling system, the work also focused on the control of the cooling process, which was supported by thermal calculations. Zeton is now in a position to use the results as a basis for further work.

The third company, Traptreden.nl, specialises in high-quality, custom-made stair treads, which are also in demand outside the Netherlands. Over the past 8 weeks, the students have developed a plan that includes the necessary steps, possible market access and initial contacts to enable traptreden.nl to enter the German market as a supplier of stair treads.

Afterwards, all students and company representatives met in Saxion Hogeschool’s Connect U and took the opportunity to discuss the experiences of the past weeks. In particular, the students reported an enormous increase in their knowledge of international and interdisciplinary teamwork. The companies appreciated the fresh, unprejudiced perspective of the students.

The current round of Smart Solution Labs ended with the Internal Project Day. But the break is short: new students and companies from the Dutch-German border region will start in March.
