Innovative ideas are available
Often, these companies do not lack innovative ideas. The “Potential Analysis for the Sustainable Establishment of Digital Innovative Power” (IHK, pwc 2022) showed that, in addition to a lack of time, it is primarily a lack of human and financial resources that hinders innovative ideas from SMEs. Here, Smart Solution Labs offer a promising solution.
Open Innovation
At Smart Solution Labs, companies can put innovative ideas in the hands of talented students. The students contribute their skills and knowledge from their various disciplines and develop the ideas further. Depending on the task, the result after the 8-week project period can be, for example, a concept, a digital solution, or a prototype.
The project partners work closely with the companies to ensure that the projects meet the needs and requirements of the companies. In this process, the company itself is in control of how intensively it wants to get involved.
Unfinished ideas become concrete projects
The students come from different departments at the three universities Saxion, FH Münster and Westfälische Hochschule and bring different skills and experience with them.
It is precisely this diversity that is an important factor in the success of the Smart Labs. The students work in interdisciplinary teams and learn not only from each other, but also from the companies.
The first Smart Labs will start in fall 2023.
